Just another indication that things may be getting better…
A few months back, I grumped about the local upscale market’s relocation of their bike racks. Our local (”local?” whatever else Whole Foods is, is isn’t “local”) Whole Foods had excommunicated those who came by bicycle to the outer reaches of the overflow parking lot, with little visibility and laughable clearance.
Well, I must not have been the only one who was upset, as this past Monday, I rolled over on my lunch break and found that the nearest auto parking slot had in fact been retrofitted as a bike parking area:
Now, those aren’t the most rigid structures they’ve selected for racks, and maybe no one wanted to wedge their passengers in next to the shopping carts anyway, but hey, it’s a step in the right direction.
November 8th, 2008 at 6:53 am Nice! I talked to a local strip mall and told them that they had 1200 homes within a mile of their location with eateries, stores etc. and they could increase the “green” effect of walk in or bicycling traffic if they installed bike racks. So what does this complex do…install a 2 bike rack at the complete end of the complex and situated on a wonderful mud patch. Oh well at least they did SOMETHING!
