Even though I’ve been fixated on the brevet thing recently, there’s nothing like a good Cross race to get the blood boiling. For those of you who didn’t know, US riders nabbed 3 silver medals in the four main races, with Danny Summerhill, Katie Compton and Jonathan Page all seriously kicking it through one of the sloppiest courses in recent events.
How bad was it? Well, those are Elite Men tumbling like Novice 3’s in the video above. Gorgeous stuff…
UPDATE 2/1/07 - Thanks to Tarik who points out that this was a different race entirely… (see Comments thread)
But this is a truly tragic bit of course design….
February 1st, 2007 at 11:31 am that was *hilarious*! esp the guy who cartwheels over the barrier!
February 1st, 2007 at 12:24 pm Yikes. Actually, the first guy down did something oddly graceful with flipping his bike around and continuing. But the guy in the dark jersey looked to be in some serious pain; spectating at real injuries is a bit disturbing.
February 1st, 2007 at 2:52 pm I have a basic aversion to watching krazy-krash videos - maybe trying to avoid some kind of visual/neural programming or something. But, this was pretty wild looking, and when I said “Gorgeous Stuff” above, it was more in reference to how well most of them actually dealt with the conditions & situations. These riders are great bike handlers at the top of the sport. When the very last guy does his thing, you realize that they’ve been banging into steel barriers. Yow-ow-ow!
February 1st, 2007 at 5:57 pm This was not the world championship, but it is a world cup race the week before. I think this one: http://www.cyclingnews.com/cross.php?id=/photos/2007/jan07/worldcup11_07/gallery-worldcup11_07 Still fantastic stuff indeed, I almost linked it myself last weekend.
February 1st, 2007 at 10:48 pm Gotcha! Thanks! Now, I know the one with the spinning barrier is a world cup vid…
